This insect has a famous history as a bloodsucker and is named due to its tendency to feed on a bed’s occupants at night. The bed bug primarily attacks humans but can feed on any warm-blooded animal such as birds, mice, and pets.
Identification Adults are just under a 1/4” long and are relatively flat, nearly as wide as long, and oval in shape compared to most other insects. The color is brown to reddish-brown. The body may have short golden hairs and will exude a “sickeningly sweet” smell from glands on its body. There are many types of bed bugs and related insects. Most of us living in the South have had a barbeque or backyard family gathering ruined by a swarm of mosquitoes. Their buzz is irritating, and their bites are painful and itchy. But these tiny pests can also carry major threats like West Nile Virus and other mosquito-borne diseases. As a result, it’s important to take advantage of effective backyard mosquito control to avoid both the annoyance and the potential dangers. Individuals are at the greatest threat of encountering mosquitoes early in the day and in the evening, as they tend to be the most active at these times across the Carolinas, Alabama, Mississippi and other southern states. Mosquitoes breed in standing water like birdbaths, clogged drains and other stagnant sources of water. In addition, these mosquito larvae can develop into adults in only a week’s time. Regular mosquito eradication service and other front & backyard mosquito control services are crucial to putting an end to this potentially dangerous cycle.
